Overview

PlanThe new B Street Theatre at 27th Street and Capitol Avenue will be part of the City of Sacramento's Master Plan for a new Midtown mixed use district that will include housing, retail, street enhancements and entertainment. When completed, this landmark facility will house two theatre spaces, a large public lobby and a bistro or retail space.

The land has been pledged. A major grant from the City of Sacramento has been awarded. The capital campaign has begun. Nearly $10 million has been committed to get this project going with an additional $8.2 million must now be raised for the new B Street Theatre to become a reality.

This mixed-use project in a contemporary architectural style is consistent with B Street’s philosophy of originality, creativity, and community building.

  • It is a time-honored tradition in many large cities throughout our country to locate theatres in the midst of vibrant areas of the city. Throughout history, theatres have been located in flourishing neighborhoods amidst restaurants, retail shops, and private residences.
  • This extraordinary project represents a new, exciting and innovative public-private partnership model – with Sutter Medical Center providing the land and the City of Sacramento providing a community reinvestment grant for project development costs.
  • The larger of the two theatre spaces will be the Sutter Children’s Theatre, a 365-seat playhouse featuring wing and trap space to create seemingly magical entrances of actors and props. The second space will be a 250-seat theatre with a thrust stage for a more intimate atmosphere.
  • Having the flexibility of two theatres—each with greater capacity than the existing spaces—will ensure that B Street shows have the ability to meet the requirements of a variety of productions. Moreover, the increased capacity will allow B Street to keep pace with its growing audience of season subscribers and regular ticket holders.

We invite you to help us continue our legacy of innovation with your gift or pledge of cash or marketable securities.  Every gift is important; many gifts are needed in all ranges to reach our goal.  As a donor, you will be recognized in a manner consistent with your level of giving.  Your gift may even give you the opportunity to name a space or place in our new facility.
